Snowvana Concerts

This year, Snowvana will feature 15 hours of acoustic, roots, soul, bluegrass, and honky-tonk from some of Portland’s most talented musical artists! On Friday night, enjoy Lotus Isle duo Matt Brown and Scott Weddle’s guitar stylings, followed by bluegrass hits by Elastic Memory and soulful roots music by Redray Frazier. Saturday, we’ll continue on the acoustic/folk train with Eagles of Freedom, more soul and roots from Jermaine, and end the night with some fun honky-tonk heart songs from Tom Anderson. Get there early both days to hear live music in the lobby and Mt. Hood Meadow’s very own Dave Tragethon.

Enlisting a bunch of long-time friends, Portland OR’s Lotus Isle was formed in 2008 by Matt Brown. The goal was to mine a more subdued vein of the rock tradition and drench it in slap-back delay, tiny tube amps, nylon string guitars, and Bigsby Vibratos. The result is their debut, “bandmates EP”, which was recorded almost entirely in Brown’s bedroom and mixed by Portland’s own audio wiz-kid, Jeff Stuart Saltzman.

It’s been quite an evolution for this native New Yorker. From singing gospel music in his father’s Baptist church to recording contemporary R&B and house music for Epic/550 and A&M Records, valuable experience was gained. Redray then toured the country as frontman of the soulful rock-band “Mosaic” on the H.O.R.D.E. music festival. Through opening for Lenny Kravitz and Blues Traveler, to name a few, Redray gained notoriety. Soon thereafter, he joined former front man of “The Talking Heads”, David Byrne’s in his touring band from 2008-2010.

While Redray uses all of his influences, his songwriting draws comparisons from Ben Harper, Maxwell to The Black Keys. However, his smooth and smoky vocal quality along with his gospel approach set him apart. “I’ve always listened to various styles of music, everything from Curtis Mayfield to The Alabama Shakes. It doesn’t matter to me, as long as the music has heart.”

Dave Tragethon was greatly influenced by classic folk and country artists, and performed in the duo “Twinsong” throughout the midwest. His travels brought him to Durango, Colorado where he performed at the historic Diamond Circle Theater for several seasons. He founded and was lead singer in the Purgatory Part Time Pluckers and Pickers Show Band. Dave shares his love for 70s folk, rock and country favorites that you can sing along to or just sit back and soak in the music.
